Health classes explained

Four price tiers exist: Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard. Know the definitions and reasons for moving between them.

Pricing happens in levels insurers call rating brackets, with familiar names everywhere: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred, Excellent), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then special pricing for outliers in high-risk groups. People who use tobacco get sorted into a different tier with steeper costs.

What underwriters look at

Body composition, heart/cholesterol metrics, parent or grandparent disease before reaching 70, driving history, pharmaceuticals you take, profession and hobbies, and nicotine/vape habits. Perfect pricing demands near-perfect scores across most factors; Preferred tier permits minor blemishes; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions like blood pressure control.

How to use the quote tool

Your health assessment is factual: Excellent links to Preferred Plus, Very good links to Preferred, Good links to Standard Plus, Average links to Standard. Your estimate matches the bracket you report; underwriting locks in your real bracket afterward. Uncertain which fits? Quote multiple brackets and do a comparison, letting underwriting determine it. Inflating your tier description won't lower premiums—it just makes your quote less accurate.

Our team finds carriers whose underwriting is gentler for your particular circumstance, often more significant than just going with rock-bottom rates.
